Barbecue Grills - The 3 Main Ones

posted on July 30, 2010 in Food and Drink: General

There are 3 main types of barbecue grills:

1) Charcoal

These are the oldest of the 3 types and have been around for decades. It is fairly obvious that these use charcoal as a source of heat. Not only does the charcoal provide heat, it also adds to the distinct flavor. It is because of the flavor that people are willing to take more time to prepare and clean this grill than other types.

You should keep these tips in mind if you are going to buy any of these grills. For those wanting to make brisquettes, be aware of that the fluid that is used to light up the grill can leave a foul taste in the meat if the fluid isn’t completed burnt off before you begin cooking. You need the grill to cool down before you can clean it. The charcoal has to be replaced after 2-3 uses and the cleanup is usually messy.

Fun fact: A popular grill these days is the stainless steel barbeque grill

2) Gas

Gas grills are the most popular type of grills right now. Propane and natural gas are the 2 major types of grills.

The NG grills give large amounts of heat at a steady temperature. The cleaning of these grills is simple and a lot of them come with a self-cleaning option so they are just as easy to clean as the indoor ones.

Natural gas grills require an electrical outlet to be hooked up to. This is usually not a problem because most patios have one. You should keep this at the back of your mind when you want to figure out the location of your grill. Only in a rare case can a grill be a fire hazard, but for most natural gas grills are the ideal choice.

Natural gas grills produce only slightly more heat than propane ones. When it comes to convenience these grills are better because of mobility. Its a nice-to-have feature especially if you want to rearrange things.

Fun fact: This is exactly why portable barbecue grill is on everyone’s list.

3) Electric

Electric grills are a relatively newer choice. They are electric ovens on wheels, if you may, with advantages. There is no need for fuel. You only need an electrical outlet and a cord to plug into it. Most models are self-cleaning, like many interior ovens. Exact temperatures can be achieved and maintained. A small downside is that due to a few features, these bbq grills are on the higher side of costs.

Fun fact: Brinkmann bbq grills are a top seller in this category
